Movie of the Week: Us

When I first saw the trailer for Jordan Peele's Us on Boxing Day last year, I was immediately sold - the soundtrack alone set the tone for a clever, genre-bending, instant cult classic at least on par with Get Out and boy did Us deliver that and more.

Us manages to be be shocking,  thought-provoking and richly multi-faceted in an entirely different and arguably even more profound way than Get Out, which is impressive given the fact that the latter already tackles some pretty heavy topical issues. It's both chilling and laugh-out-loud funny when it needs to be, but also a touch melancholic. Overall an excellent tonic to the soulless cliche-driven horror currently saturating our cinemas and one that I plan to watch and re-watch for years to come.
